Apple TV not responding to remote – Easy Fix

Before I start explaining what might be the cause of your apple tv not responding to remote, I would like to tell you that this is not the only reason. There might be many other possible reasons and fixes to it. But, I will be covering the most common ones because those are more widespread than other not-so-common reasons.

Why Apple tv not responding to remote
When you buy Apple TV, it comes with a remote controller. You might think that the battery is dead or there is something broken inside the remote and you will have to buy a new remote. But that is highly unlikely because the Apple TV remote is a well-built device and it doesn’t die easily. Although it is a well-built device, it does have some problems in its design. When new, your Apple TV will work just perfect but when your Apple TV remote has received some drops, the battery cap of the remote becomes loose.
Fix Apple TV Remote not working
Usually, you will be able to fix this issue by a simple trick, which is using your Apple TV remote by holding it upside-down. That is keeping the buttons facing down. But, there is a way to fix this issue while using the remote.
All you have to do is open the battery part of the Apple TV remote and put a small piece of paper between the battery and the battery cap.
Doing this will push the battery a little towards the circuit board of the remote. And it will keep working even holding it the right way.
What if this doesn’t work?
I would suggest you, to change the battery of the Apple TV remote and it will rule out the possibility of a dead battery. But, still if you were unable to make the remote work, this probably indicates that the remote itself is broken.
Keep in mind that you might need to pair your Apple TV remote with your Apple TV once you have replaced the battery.
Make sure your Apple TV is working
This is a very important step to determine that your Apple TV is not at fault. Because if that is the case then you will need to get a new one. All you have to do is open up camera on your smartphone, and point the Apple TV remote towards the camera and press any button.
If you are able to see light pulses coming out of the remote, inside camera viewfinder, your Apple TV remote is good, which means that your Apple TV box is broken. But that is highly unlikely.
If you don’t see any light coming out of the remote on your camera screen, your Apple TV remote control is probably busted. I would suggest you buy a new remote for your Apple TV and pair it with your Apple TV.

How to pair Apple TV remote with Apple TV
Just in case if you got a brand new Apple TV remote or you replaced the battery with new one, you will need to pair the remote with Apple TV again. For this, you will need to press and hold the Menu + Right arrow button. Hold both the buttons for 6 seconds and it will pair up with Apple TV.
